“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is a shocking departure from the charm that made the first installment surprisingly good.
⭐½ (wish I could give it zero stars!)
If you’re considering watching this movie with little ones, think again – this is not family-friendly content!!
While the first Guardians had its own unique charm and the second volume was forgivable, Vol. 3 takes a nosedive into a realm of discomfort that I would have never expected. The once-lovable characters and their quirky adventures are overshadowed by a disturbing plotline involving animal experimentation.
The movie goes beyond the bounds of decency, subjecting its audience to scenes that are not only depressing but downright traumatic. Whether you’re actually a child or just a child at heart, watching animals being experimented on – even if they’re only animations – is not a form of entertainment anyone should endure. Disney+ is supposed to be a safe platform for family viewing, and the fact that this dark, depressing movie is available on their service is mindboggling.
Midway through the film, my husband and I couldn’t take it anymore. We turned it off, unwilling to subject ourselves to a storyline that seemed to revel in unnecessary cruelty for the sake of shock value. I’ve seen PETA ads that were less distressing than this sorry excuse for a movie.
Save yourself the agony, and steer clear of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” It’s a far cry from the magic of the first film and is more likely to leave you with a sense of regret for watching than any feelings of enjoyment.
